Well, I feel like I should introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Kelsi and I am the primary writer and editor here at Vintage Kids | Modern World. You may have forgotten that I existed, but I’ve been carrying on with four (count’em, FOUR) kiddos now (you can stalk me on Instagram to
be flooded with see pictures of them!), drinking coffee by the gallons (I wish I was kidding), wiping noses, finding lost swimsuits, and fishing rocks and marbles from my dryer. Just keepin’ it classy folks.
And although I’ve been quiet here lately, I have a notebook full of blogging ideas and a wonderful stack of goodies sitting here in my office, ready to be given away!
Seriously, I’ve contemplated running 2 solid weeks of giveaways, just to charm myself back into your good graces, my dear and faithful readers! (that’s a hint that there will be more giveaways coming veeeery soon!)
And to usher in this renewed blogging extravaganza here at Vintage Kids, I am beyond excited to share an amazing and incredibly unique gift item, just in time for Father’s Day!
The folks at Jord Watches ever so kindly sent me a complimentary wooden (yes, wooden) watch to review for you, and I’m in love. See what I mean…
I am incredibly impressed with Jord’s watches and yes, they’re completely wooden and totally unique. Even the face of the watch is made from wood, so each piece has it’s own character and individual grain and texture.
And not only that, but it’s the little things, ya know? Each Jord watch comes in a sleek wooden gift box with an embroidered cushion, so there’s no need to wrap.
This particular watch is their Fieldcrest series watch with the black face and it’s just the right size. My husband has finally benefitted from all this bloggy-business, and it looks pretty nice on him, ifIdosaysomyself!
He’s been wearing it to work for the last few weeks, and it’s not clunky or heavy at all. He’s used to checking the time on his phone and then shoving it in his pocket, so wearing a watch wasn’t a habit he was used to.
He’s constantly moving and this watch has gotten a beating – at any given time he’ll be at a desk typing, doing manual work, presenting in a board room, or on the road, so this piece has been put to the test, and it still looks amazing!
The coloring and texture of the wood grain is so intricate! In all honesty, after a few weeks, I expected to see some major wear and tear, because this piece is quite light weight and, well, it’s wood. I expected scuffing or scratches, but it’s still in mint condition and it’s definitely become a conversation piece.
Jord uses bamboo, maple, sandalwood, blackwood, cherry, zebrawood, and koa in their products and because they are completely natural (and hypoallergenic), you use only natural products to clean and protect them. A 1:1 mixture of olive oil and lemon juice applied with a soft cloth is all that is needed to restore the inherent luster of the wood. However, because it’s porous, Jord recommends a natural beeswax coating to protect the wood for longevity. Simple and completely sustainable.
…And that’s what drew me to Jord. It’s all natural. “Jord” is a Swedish word for earth, soil and land, and all of their watches are simple and modern, but rustic and earthy and the craftsmanship of each piece highlights the character of the material they’re using.
If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you know I’m not one to throw money at fashion and most of my posts on homemaking have to do with frugality and simplicity. However, I LOVE gift giving and although this watch is an investment (time pieces range from $120-$295), I have no doubt, given the quality, that my husband will have this for a very long time, and it would make a thoughtful and unique gift.
And on that note, on to the fun part!
