High Protein Peanut Butter Banana Shake

Today I scored BIG.

I headed to our local Amish bulk goods store with both kids in tow. I was harried by the time I got there but I was determined to stock up on dark chocolate chips and get out of there as quick as possible. I had one kid in each arm and could have dropped them both when I saw the price for a box of bananas.

$4.00 for a LARGE box of bananas

$4.00 for approximately 100 bananas. I call that a GOOD deal!

So, 200 bananas made their way home with me and I am on a dehydrating and freezing spree. (I should have taken pictures of it all this afternoon but my hands were covered…in bananas)

We use frozen bananas in many of our dairy-free desserts. Most frequently our homemade shakes. For an added health boost, we’re throwing in some chia seeds and some collagen for a huge boost of protein!

Peanut Butter Shake


  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup milk or milk substitute I use almond milk
  • 1/3 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1 Tb chia seeds
  • 1 Tb collagen
  • 1 Tbs honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 ice cubes


  1. Place all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into glass and serve immediately or place in freezer for 30 minutes for a thicker consistency.

Recipe Notes

  • Optional add-ins: flax seed, oatmeal, coconut oil
  • For a chocolate peanut butter version, simply add in 1 Tbs of cocoa powder.

  1. Wow! What a great deal! I love freezing bananas too for shakes and smoothies. For some reason, I’ve never made a peanut butter shake – I will have to try this!

  2. Wow! That IS a good deal. This looks delicious, although I’m a little leery of prepared peanut butter right now with all the recalls going on. I think I’d add a step and grind my own…. Hmmm…. perhaps I could give that a go right now. A shake sounds pretty darn good!

    I make something very similar and put it popsicle molds from IKEA (BPA-free, $1.99)

    2 frozen bananas
    1 T cashew butter
    1/2 scoop chocolate flavored Vega One meal replacement shake mix
    enough almond milk to make it mixable in my Ninja blender.

    sometimes I add a little probiotics, but I’m not sure how freezing them affects the bacteria.

    My baby girl (20 months) LOVES them.

    I call them fudgesicles :o) I also usually add a little extra almond milk to a portion so she can drink it as a shake, so Im not sure exactly how many this recipe makes. I would guess about 4-5 made in the IKEA mold.
